BazTek Native Restoration is a veteran-owned small business serving Socorro County, New Mexico. Founded by Basil D. Addington Jr. — a Navy veteran and 20-year IT systems professional — BazTek brings genuine technical depth and the discipline of a military career to rural conservation work.

Our mission is to apply modern technology — GIS mapping, spatial analysis, and precision tools — to the real-world challenges of high-desert land management. We do not claim decades of conservation experience we have not earned. What we offer instead is systematic problem-solving, direct communication, and a commitment to collaboration with NRCS professionals, conservation districts, and experienced land managers. Native Ecosystem Restoration

🌱 We are actively building our native restoration practice, starting with a Waffle Grid pilot project in Veguita, NM. This first field project focuses on passive water harvesting and soil recovery techniques appropriate for high-desert range conditions. Our restoration work is guided by NRCS conservation practice standards and implemented in close collaboration with experienced Technical Service Providers.

Note: Restoration implementation projects are currently accepted on a selective basis as we complete our first pilot site.

GIS & Conservation Planning

🗺️ We provide GIS research and spatial analysis to help landowners understand their land before engaging with agencies. This includes property boundary research, watershed and soil data compilation, and site documentation to support NRCS program conversations. We use professional GIS software (QGIS/ArcGIS) and current USDA, NRCS, and NM RGIS data sources.

Ideal for: Landowners beginning the EQIP application process, ranchers who need a clearer picture of their land before meeting with NRCS staff, and conservation project partners who need mapped baseline data.

Note: Formal agency-submission GIS packages (shapefile deliverables, POD documentation, State Land Office submissions) are offered in partnership with qualified TSPs as BazTek’s capacity grows.

Agricultural Technology Support

💻 Many small farming and ranching operations face the same challenge: the technology exists to make compliance, documentation, and operations easier — but setting it up is a barrier. With 20+ years of IT systems experience, we help operations get their hardware, software, and data workflows running so they can focus on the land. We assist with USDA compliance documentation, farm record-keeping software setup, and technology planning for small operations.

Aerial Mapping & Monitoring (Roadmap)

🚁 FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate - Issued

BazTek is now authorized for commercial UAS operations under 14 CFR Part 107. Our temporary Remote Pilot Certificate has been issued by the FAA; the permanent certificate is in process and expected within 90 days. Commercial operations are active now.

BazTek provides drone-assisted aerial mapping and documentation services integrated directly with our GIS workflow. Current service offerings include: high-resolution orthomosaic generation for conservation planning and NRCS project documentation; before-and-after site documentation for restoration verification and EQIP compliance; vegetation monitoring and change detection over time; remote site assessment for project scoping — reducing landowner cost before ground teams deploy; and small-acreage photogrammetry with WebODM deliverables (up to 100 acres). Service area: Socorro County and adjacent areas.

Future clients: Conservation easement holders, NRCS project sponsors, ranchers needing post-fire or flood damage documentation, and precision agriculture operations.

Our primary service area is Socorro County, New Mexico, with service availability extending into Catron and Valencia Counties for appropriate project types. We specialize in Chihuahuan Desert high-desert conditions — the soils, the rainfall patterns, the native plant communities, and the specific challenges that come with operating at 4,500 to 7,000 feet elevation in one of the most arid landscapes in North America.

We maintain an active 1-acre demonstration site in Veguita, NM (Turney loamy sand, USDA soil series), which serves as our primary field research and learning site. All techniques we recommend have been evaluated in conditions representative of the soils and terrain common to Socorro County agricultural operations.
